Default Bug#680749: 680749

Additional info:
If brightness setting does not work at all (scenario where brightness was not set during text boot screen), the values of /proc/acpi/ibm/brightness go from 0 to 7 with an increment of one, without any effect on the actual brightness, which does not change. After reaching the value of 7 by pressing the brightness increase button again, and they they loop around again from 0 to 7, then it is not possible to do another loop. Stepping the brightness down displays the same behavior, 7..0,7..0 without any effect on actual brightness. Echoing a value into the control file does not have any effect on screen brightness either.
