Reproducible?

Please attach output from "reportbug --template linux-image-$(uname -r)"
after booting into the problematic kernel.

Thanks and hope that helps,
Jonathan

Default Bug#655376: kernek: pl2302 kernel driver bug

I think I fixed my problem. Some googling gave med the following solution. I couldn't find back the exact page I used for the solution today.
Network manager polls the serial port for modems at regular intervals fills some buffer that hangs the device/driver The solution was to move or remove /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.ModemManager.service and restart network manager.

The bug might have been fixed upstream either in network manager, in the driver or both but I have no idea how to check it.
The computer has been working for several weeks now without error.

Sorry for not reporting in earlier, but I sent an email the day after the first response that never got through (could be my outlook sending wrongly formatted mail or some filtering of emails). Nothing relevant was in that earlier email.

As for me, the issue is resolved.
