Yeah, that commit looks completely broken. I've sent a note to Greg
asking him to revert it.

I fear that this will affect 2.6.32-40 from stable-proposed-updates,
too. :/ If you have time to try it, that would be helpful.

I don't have a stable system to play with.

Note that Venki Pallipadi, the author of 7c1e768, offered a potential
diagnosis that systems with HPET support will actually see this [1].
His message seems to have gotten separated from the thread.

FWIW, at least past squeeze kernels installed and ran without trouble
for me on wheezy/sid. I guess a first experiment would be to try
2.6.32-39 (which should work fine) first, then.
