Default Bug#630552: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: K8 ECC error

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-34squeeze1
Severity: normal

Hi Team,

I've being configuring a new server for a couple of days now, and suddenly today I've started being flooded with this message at the console.

Don't know if this is a clue but this message triggered while I was making a tarball from a mounted disk a while ago and appears randomly since then.

I've rebooted the server was able to trigger again the message by re-running the tar command.

Can you provide any more info on this?

Thanks in advance,

dmesg.log attached.

The most useful thing you can try to track this down is swapping out
the RAM and seeing if the errors go away.

See http://buttersideup.com/edacwiki/WhyAmIgettingMemoryErrors

I wish I had a better suggestion. Thanks and good luck.

I'll open a ticket at the provider asking for a RAM test and|or RAM replacement.

I see.. thanks for the pointer.

It's a good suggestion for me.

Thanks again.

I've reopened the bug and will check how it got fixed in mainline Linux
(not sure whether that patch was applied or not).

Ben.

I've got me RAM replaced a while ago and no sign og the flloding yet, so I guess no further testing
will be posible on my side.

Thanks for your interest anyway.

So we don't know whether those were genuine ECC error reports...?

Ben.

These are the only references reported by dmesg now so, I guess (as you both suggested) was related
to faulty RAM modules.

Feel free to review the patch under you consideration.

Despite my new RAM, I'm open for testing if needed.

Thanks again.

Hi Ben,

After a few days monitoring this issue, I can confirm that the problem disappeared since new RAM
modules were installed.

So, feel free to close this bug report under your own criteria.

Thanks a lot for your help.
