I confirm it doesn't work with:

debian 2.6.39-1-amd64

on my Asus K52J notebook.

I tried the irqpoll option with grub, with no success.

This is a default Debian installation with experimental mirrors set up.

Suspend freeze.
Hibernate tells the IRQ17 error and freeze. (on reboot, sometimes it
seems to boot up as it was hibernated)

It turns out this has something to do with ASPM. (There's more
information than that upstream, but it goes above my head. )
The patch linked to by [1] above works around it and might be
useful for investigators and affected people in the short term.
