Bug#620538: Crashes when exiting Adobe Flash full-screen videos (e.g. YouTube)
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.38-2
Severity: normal
After upgrade from 2.6.37 to 2.6.38 (linux-image-2.6.38-1-686-bigmem) a lot of
kernel crashes started to occur (when exiting Flash full-screen mode).
They still occur with linux-image-2.6.38-2-686-bigmem.
I've included (using reportbug's "-A" option, I hope this worked) a photo of
monitor displaying kernel messages after such crash.
Crashes happen consistently when I try to exit Adobe Flash full-screen mode (e.g.
on YouTube videos) by pressing "Esc" on keyboard. In no other situation I
managed to crash my system.
After a crash soundcard is playing a short sample repeatedly (infinite loop)
- probably last sample from buffer.
Crashes do not happen on every exit, however I didn't manage to do more than
5-10 consecutive exits from Flash full-screen without a crash. So, with 2.6.38
I get several crashes a day.
Problem seems not to occur with 'linux-image-2.6.37-2-686-bigmem'.
I run this older version for a few days now, with rest of the system the same
as with 2.6.38 kernel, and system is perfectly stable.
I have Core2Duo E6600 with 4GB of RAM.
System is built on Gigabyte's GA-EP45-UD3LR mainboard.
Graphics card, which probably plays most part in these crashes, is
PCI-E Sapphire Radeon HD4850 1G DDR3
It has connected an LCD (1920x1200) monitor via DVI.
I also use Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value soundcard (not the one embedded on
motherboard).
I use Iceweasel (3.5.18-1) with flashplugin-nonfree.

Please report this upstream at <https://bugs.freedesktop.org> under

I went to bugs.freedesktop.org, and before filing new bug, I searched
for similar issues.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34556
looks exactly like mine.
For me also 'Option "EnablePageFlip" "off"', which results
in a Xorg.0.log entry:
"""
[ 169.328] (II) RADEON(0): KMS Pageflipping: disabled
"""
seems to help.

Hopefully this was fixed by v3.0-rc3~42^2~8 (drm/radeon: fix oops in
ttm reserve when pageflipping (v2), 2011-05-29). If you find time
to test the latest version from sid, that would be very helpful.
Thanks again for a clear report,
Jonathan

With linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae 3.0.0-1
and turned back on page flipping
([ 24.959] (II) RADEON(0): KMS Pageflipping: enabled
in Xorg.0.log)
I'm unable to reproduce the original problem.
So, the issue really looks solved.
Thank you! :-)
