Default Bug#618847: linux-image-2.6.38-1-amd64: Does not boot with KMS enabled (Radeon Mobility HD 3650)

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.38-1
Severity: important

Updated to Linux kernel 2.6.38-1 today. System is a Toshiba Satellite
A305-S6916 with an ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3650 in it. Using open source radeon
driver. Works fine with KMS enabled and kernel 2.6.37-2. With 2.6.38-1, shows
a black screen and stops when trying to set the video mode.

Video of the boot messages, as reportbug suggested:
http://www.box.net/shared/pr2dptkrf7

Any more info I can provide, please ask.

-- John

P.S. I hope this is not a duplicate; some of the kernel bug report pages would
not load here.

Please report this upstream at <https://bugs.freedesktop.org>, under
product 'DRI', component 'DRM/Radeon'. Let us know the bug URL so we
can track it.

Does it really have anything to do with DRI? It's the Linux console
going blank when a Linux kernel module is loaded. I've forwarded to the
linux-fbdev mailing list.

Thanks for tracking. I've attached the patch I plan to send upstream. I also
fixed a similar potential case in the connector handling.
