Is the machine working with an Debian kernel since then?

Default Bug#509202: Broken kernel

I have been using a custom kernel so I cannot say how the debian
kernel works. My friend Brad took a look at a similar (possibly the
same) issue on his blade 2500. He has a working boot.img and
additional information online at
http://www.grsecurity.net/~spender/new_sparc_netinstall/

David Miller thinks this is due to a bug in mapping of 'sparse' RAM on
64-bit SPARC sytems which he recently fixed. This bug was already known
to affect V440 and V880 machines. We'll try to include this bug fix in
an update to Debian 5.0 'lenny' as well as Debian 6.0 'squeeze'.
