Bug#569524: Bug 569524: Follow-up on ext2 large_file test
 
Rats, I guess. Removing the three big files, resetting
large_file, rerunning e2fsck, and the mount is still no
different. Do you want to look at this before I just
let Lenny remake the filesys (which had _better_ mount)?

The kernel log includes:

[165778.814712] ext3: No journal on filesystem on sdd

It looks like you need to explicitly mount with type ext2, not ext3.
