Bug#568806: linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-amd64: Internal mic of dell m1330 stopped working with 2.6.32 kernel

outdated, please try newer from unstable.
> With the upgrade to 2.6.32, the internal microphone stopped working. To get it working, there should be a digital audio capture device, and that device is gone with this kernel (see below). The output devices listing seems okay.
> All was working up to kernel 2.6.31. I tried to compile alsa from alsa-source, but that won't compile on an amd64 due to a bug in that package. Therefore, i don't know if that makes a difference
thanks.

so experimental has 2.6.33, please test against it.
if it still fails please contact upstream alsa mailinglist
with the output of the alsa info bug script.
if it works we need to see which change made it work to
backport that for squeeze.
thanks

Thanks. I will try this version as soon as kbuild-2.6.33 arrives in
experimental.

don't expect such to land soon either build for yourself from repo
wiki.debian.org/DebianKernel has some pointers or just test
from the console.

OK. I've build the kernel, and still the mic is not recognised and
building alsa-source fails.
One thing I noticed, during boot (or after a modprobe snd-hda-intel) I
get the following error message:
warning: 'alsactl restore 0' failed with error message 'Unkown
hardware: "HDA-Intel" "SigmaTel STAC 9228"
"HDA83847616,120280209,00100402" "0x1028" "0x0209"'
and then claims it starts using a guessing method. If I remember
correctly, it always gave this error message, even when it all worked.
Anyway, it still doesn't work with 2.6.33. Shall I continue and file a
bug upstream?
Regards,
Sjoerd

you could try before unload hda snd module and pass all its different
variants, see Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt

That was a good idea. It took some time, but the option "model=dell-md6"
worked, as well as "model=dell-m23". SO I probably need to file a bug
that the auto-recognition stopped working?

please provide alsa-info.sh output in working and nonworking case.
so that alsa devs can see the diff.
