Bug#518815: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64: analog joystick-driver not running with gameport
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64
Severity: important
*** Please type your report below this line ***
The analog joystick-driver ist not running with Debian because it has no "bind" to
the correct device js0.
It has a bind to something like /class/input/input1 instead of /dev/input/js0 and
so it cannot work.
This problem seems to exist for a longer time and i can reproduce it on different
hardware and debian 4.0 or 5.0. So i attached different lsmod-outputs.
When i boot knoppix 5.1 on the same machine the joystick works immediately without
no problem.
There are many desperated forum-threads about this theme, so please don't say that
nobody uses an analog joystick anymore!
It is still existent on nearly every mainboard and very useful, if you want to
connect some external buttons for using them e.g. with joyd.
The Joystick-Port is not out of date and is supported by any other Linux distribution!
So "important" should be the right priority for this problem.
The problem is existent from kernel 2.6.18 or older up to now.
It must be fixed in stable and testing for the kernel-modules.
/lib/modules/2.6.26-1-amd64/kernel/drivers/input/joystick/analog.ko
You can reproduce the error on every PC which has a Gameport.
Maybe the error is caused in an other module than analog.ko.
I have read something about it but cannot find it again.
