use rootdelay=12 to shorten time to see if the trouble is initramfs
and then check which devices are there, post the corresponding dmesg
the error messages!

that might be a good start

Well your rootdelay solve the problem

I haven't seen the error about root not found.
the mpt driver wasn't not yet initialized when the boot process try to
mount root.

Thank you very much and sorry as it's not a bug.

Maybe this could be put in a wiki this could be helpful for someone else
