Default Bug#498891: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686: Kernel hangs while "waiting for root filesystem"

Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26-5
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

The newest version of linux-image-2.6.26-1-686 refuses to boot on my
laptop. The previous version of the same package booted fine. It runs
the script-top (iirc) script, then sits on "waiting for root filesystem"
until I reboot with ctrl-alt-delete. Ctrl-c, ctrl- and other key
combinations will not cause the boot to progress.

Default Bug#498891: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686: Kernel hangs while "waiting for root filesystem"

Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26-5
Followup-For: Bug #498891

This appears to be caused by the SIS5513 change. Looking through the
changelog, I saw it, and a vague recollection of change /dev/hd* to
/dev/sd* around 2.6.13 or so came back to me. Changing them back in
/boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/fstab "fixes" the problem. If this change
happens when upgrading to Lenny, there will need to be release notes
about it.
