Default problems with Gnome and KDE

Hi,
I really need help with two problems:
1. minor problem: whenever I start Gnome, there is message like this:
"Jun 5 22:55:47 dunadan gnome-session[4527]: WARNING: Application
'nautilus.desktop' failed to register before timeout"

in the syslog.
I cannot put anything on the desktop and there is no possibility to
click on it with my mouse (left nor right button)

I hardly tried to find solution on the web, but without success
2. major problem: I use KDE 4.6.X from Sid, but the session crashes
immediately after start (this is the reason, I sent the copy to debian-kde).
I tried to rename .kde in the home, no luck. More than that, when I try
to play KDE origin game (e.g. KBreakOut), when it comes to the end, it
crashes

Can any of you give me a clue?

Many thanks

Vlada

First of all, these can be two different bugs. Seems that you are not familiar
with reporting bugs, as you are not given us crash logs. Please take no
offense, but you should not be using Sid.

That being said, how did you installed kde? I mean, wich package did you use
to install it?

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

Is there something of interest logged at "~/.xsession-errors"?

Both errors could share the same origin.

Default problems with Gnome and KDE

Hi, Lisandro,
thanks for your reply.
I am using Sid for several years, with no major problems, I didn't
notice crashing window manager before.
I was not sure what to report for a bug, that's the reason I was asking
before writing bugs.

The repositories and packages are from Sid, e.g.:
root@dunadan:/home/kerka# apt-cache policy kde-full
kde-full:
Installed: 5:68
Candidate: 5:68
Version table:
*** 5:68 0

experimental-snapshots/main amd64 Packages

5:66 0
500 ftp://ftp.cz.debian.org/debian/ testing/main amd64 Packages
500 ftp://ftp.cz.debian.org/debian/ stable/main amd64 Packages

root@dunadan:/home/kerka# apt-cache policy kdebase-bin
kdebase-bin:
Installed: 4:4.6.3-1
Candidate: 4:4.6.3-1
Version table:
*** 4:4.6.3-1 0
500 ftp://ftp.cz.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages

4:4.4.5-2 0
500 ftp://ftp.cz.debian.org/debian/ stable/main amd64 Packages
etc.

Is there anything more I can attach?

Have you tried upgrading the system? I remember to see someone else with the
same problem and solving it like that.

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

Hi, Lisandro,
thanks for your reply.
I am using Sid for several years, with no major problems, I didn't
notice crashing window manager before.
I was not sure what to report for a bug, that's the reason I was asking
before writing bugs.
The repositories and packages are from Sid, e.g.:
root@dunadan:/home/kerka# apt-cache policy kde-full
kde-full:
Installed: 5:68
Candidate: 5:68
Version table:
*** 5:68 0

experimental-snapshots/main amd64 Packages
5:66 0
500 ftp://ftp.cz.debian.org/debian/ testing/main amd64 Packages
500 ftp://ftp.cz.debian.org/debian/ stable/main amd64 Packages

root@dunadan:/home/kerka# apt-cache policy kdebase-bin
kdebase-bin:
Installed: 4:4.6.3-1
Candidate: 4:4.6.3-1
Version table:
*** 4:4.6.3-1 0
500 ftp://ftp.cz.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

4:4.4.5-2 0
500 ftp://ftp.cz.debian.org/debian/ stable/main amd64 Packages
etc.

Is there anything more I can attach?

Have you tried upgrading the system? I remember to see someone else with the
same problem and solving it like that.

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

I'm not sure what does upgrading system mean, I do dist-upgrade, of
course, every time I upgrade packages, without any success on mentioned
problem
