Any chance for these - at least in experimental? They seem to contain a
whole lot of bug fixes, including AFAIR some of rather nasty bugs with
loosing metadata.

I really hope that some stuff in experimental that is not to go into
squeeze, can become a squeeze-backport. I am willing to help with that. I
provided some backports already:
