Nepomuk always indexing at the beginning of every session
Hello, I would like to know if Nepomuk is misbehaving and if this is
happening only to me. At every new session, nepomuk starts indexing the configured folders, even if no change has been made in them and the database has data inside (i.e. it's possible to do a search and retrieve results). Considering that the indexing process is very heavy on CPU, this is really boring and at least a complete waste of resources. Should I purge the database and start a new one? Is this a design flow? Should I do a bugreport to nepomuk? At the moment I run Sid with the KDE 4.5.1 packages available in the semi-official repository. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kde-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Nepomuk always indexing at the beginning of every session
Hi,
...I observe the same behaviour. Every morning my Laptop goes nuts after logging in. This takes about 10 minutes, then everything is normal again. I saw the nepomuk process in the process-list, too... Vale Thanks, but I'm not sure how I would do that since I am running the following versions (in other words, I updated some components as much as possible without removing what was needed to keep 3.5.X programs such as Quanta running): ii kdebase-runtime 4:4.2.4-2 ii kdebase-bin 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 core binaries for the KDE base module ii kdebase-data 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 shared data files for the KDE base module ii kdebase-doc 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 developer documentation for the KDE base module ii kdebase-doc-html 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 KDE base documentation in HTML format ii kdebase-kio-plugins 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 core I/O slaves for KDE Regards, Arthur. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kde-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". IMHO you are mixing different packages (indeeed KDE 4.2 and KDE 3.5) and anyhow, nepomuk has been disabled in Debian until KDE 4.4 that is not what you actually have. Prabably you should not worry about it. Bye Valerio -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kde-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Nepomuk always indexing at the beginning of every session
Disable it, maybe even uninstall it if possible.
Use recoll and my recoll-runner if you want indexing of textual files. Recoll does not bog down the system and its indexing can be run niced. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kde-REQUEST@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bye Valerio For the benefit of the mailing list archives, I solved teh problem by editing: ~/.kde/share/config/nepomukserverrc and setting: autostart=false Unfortunately, there were no manual pages for nepomuk related executables and it was not clear to me how to start nepomuk in a nice'd or ionice'd way.
