All went swimmingly, as it happens. One weird akonadi error
on start - but following the bug that Modestas referenced at
b.k.o - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=224732 - I now
have contacts appearing again. For some reason I got three
std.vcf's showing - but two were empty, so easy to clean up.
The akonadi start-up error was disconcerting - I don't envy you
guys (Debian package-maintainers) at the best of times, but this
stuff just confuses the heck out of me. Test 4 produced an error
(mysql log indicated errors opening and locking the time zone
and privilege tables). And then Test 13 errored when it couldn't
find any resource agents. Test 15 then errored, as the server error
log could not be found.
Feelings so far (KDE related, not packaging)
The 'move a window to an edge to tile / maximise it' is an interesting
feature.
It *feels* a bit slower than 4.3.4, but I can't put my finger on
what. GUI / desktop effects seem as snappy (flip switch etc)
but other things seem slightly slower. Yakuake feels really
sluggish, for example.
Having two MySQL daemons running makes me feel a bit unclean.
I know they're not chewing up huge amounts of memory, but still.
I'll have a browse around to see how I can consolidate back to one.
top output shown at the end of this message in case anyone's curious.
On the upside - I'm now running 4.4.1 and there were no problems
in getting this going - so a big Well Done and Thank You Very Much
to all the maintainers.
