I have a - postfix+mysql+dovecot - virtual domains mail system running
and I want to deploy a per user quota system. Which is the best
solution? I tried to use the quota system from dovecot but I couldn't
get it work.
Thanks

"Best" in what way? Cyrus has built-in quota controls that are pretty
good, but if you've never set up Cyrus before you'll be in for a bit of a
rocky ride; Dovecot, as you know, supports quotas but "I tried to use the
quota system from dovecot but I couldn't get it work" tells us nothing
about the problems you had. Maybe the "best" solution is to get someone
else to set it up for you.
You might get a better response on Debian-users mailing list.

Hi,
Postfix + VDA patch, with Courier IMAP/POP3 works well.
Both implement Maildir++ extensions, with per-user quota from MySQL.

Recompile postfix with VDA patch. I believe dovecot quota stored in
mysql doesn't really work in etch.

For postfix+mysql+dovecot I've used the VDA patch many times in
postfix and dovecot understand's it pretty well.
postfix+mysql+dovecot+vda patch is my basic e-mail system I really recomend it.
You can fin'd instructions to apply the patch in www.howtoforge.com
just click the debian and look for the "virtual users and domains bla
bla bla"link there. There's a tutorial using courier but they show how
to patch postfix with vda and that's what you need.
There's also a tutorial called "full mail solution" wich is more
complex but shows the dovecot part configuration.
