Default Bug#465813: ITP: cyclone -- Safe dialect of C

Package: wnpp
Owner: François-Denis Gonthier <neumann@lostwebsite.net>
Severity: wishlist

* Package name : cyclone
Version : 1.0/CVS
Upstream Author : Dan Grossman, Trevor Jim, Greg Morrisett et al.
* URL or Web page : http://cyclone.thelanguage.org
* License : GPL (+ BSD alike for some files)
Description : Safe dialect of C

Cyclone is a compiler for a language close to the C language. It adds
several feature to improve the safety on the C language. Such features
include:

- pattern matching,
- algebraic datatypes
- exceptions
- region-based memory management
- optional garbage collection.

One of cyclone aims is to produce programs that are more secure than C
programs by eliminating buffers overflows, double free bugs, dangling
pointers access, etc.

For Cyclone-l readers, this is a "Intent To Package" for the Debian
GNU/Linux distribution. It is meant to say that there is somebody
working on packaging a particular software for the distribution.

If you have any comments or questions, I'll be happy to answer.

I suggest "C-like compiler with improved security checks"

"dialect" is faily trivial language for me, which is IMHO not suitable
for a package description.

I disagree - dialect is the proper technical term here.

Though the actual thing being compackage seems to be a compiler, so:

compiler for a "safe" dialect of C
