This is one reason why an ITP is expected *before* beginning work.
Yea, indeed.* I completely forgot about it, sorry.

How did you package it? If it includes the git source do not
bother to upload it, this wont get in.

Using the copy and paste method from the old source, obscured by
irrelevant changes.

Is your package patch available so I can review it?
Also, it doesn't look like you're a DD. Why are you so keen to
maintain it?

WHEN DID BEING A DD BECOME A PREREQUISITE FOR MAINTAINING A PACKAGE?
The “you're not a DD” blablabla is quite frustrating already, and I
can't think of a good reason to (mis|ab|)use it, especially when there's
no reasons to.
Had you done a bit of research, you'd have found Iulian already
maintains some packages within the Debian archive[1]. And from his mail
address, you could guess that it might be Ubuntu giving back to Debian.

Yes, it included the git source but I was not going to upload it in this state.
I'm still thinking of a way to get rid of git source and not affect the rest.

Yes, you're right, I'm not a DD.* Anyway,* I've had no idea that you're a DD.
That being said, perhaps it's better to submit wnpp bugs using your d.o
address?
On the other hand, please ignore my intention to maintain this.
I'm sorry for this.
Cheers

Get upstream git to stabilise libgit into a proper shared library.
Please see #407722, which I set as blocking the ITP #515793.

*shrug*
Have you never been excited about being able to contribute to
Debian? (I found your answer inappropriate)

That's not the proper way to end such a discussion. You know we can have
several (co-)maintainers for each package since a very long time.
Put your work on a git repo in collab-maint and work together!

Don't be sorry, you have done nothing wrong except badly timing your ITP.

Please consider refraining to post comments like this in the
future. Your intention might have been good, but written as you wrote
it, it can discourage non-DDs to maintain packages.
We have sponsorship in place exactly because we (unless proven
otherwise) want also non-DDs to maintain packages, of course with
mentoring and review in place before uploading.
Also, the Debian Project endorsed the notion of Debian Maintainer [1]
which, again, show our support to non-DDs maintaining packages
(sometime for the interim before becoming DDs, sometime not).
Cheers.
