Default Bug#506342: general: fails to recognize my sound card

I had the same problem. You probably have several sound cards (or a
webcam for example).
Try to completely remove /etc/modprobe.d/sound (first) and if it
doesn't work blacklist the module of the unused soundcard.

Can you please send the output of lsmod?
