Default Updates from today

hi guys,

EL5 got a bunch of updates that really need to make it out asap, and
while 4.9 settles down - the thinking is to get them released into the
5.5/updates repo. I'll have an exact list of what all is going to make
it in the day tomorrow, along with the packages.

isn't putting 5.x packages into a 5.(x-1) repo what fasttrack was once
intended for?

Just my 2 cent...

I am not sure if it was ever quantified in that way, but fastrack isnt a
repo enabled on most machines out there.

There are a couple of tricky builds, but if we can get them done today
we should have the updates out right away. Nothing in there seems to be
a major blocker.

No, the fasttrack channel/repo was supposed to be a rebuild of the
upstream FasTrack channel, but it never really materialised, at least
not for 5.x.

The choices are to put these 5.6 updates into the 5.5/updates repo and
risk potential breakage in exchange for wider adoption or to put them
into a testing channel where the vast majority of users would likely
never see/deploy them.

Karanbir,
What's the current state of this effort?

There are some deep linking issues with the updates. I thought we had
the final tree for 5.6 in place last night, but there are 2 issues that
Ned pointed out which I hope to get done shortly - in the next few hours
and have the tree's over into QA. Once that is done, the updates can
churn though.

Just a quick update to this, updates now churning. The last bits of 5.6
fell into place over the course of the last 24 hrs.

2 - 3 weeks from GA release of 5.6 is still a good time line to plan
against.

That is very nice to hear.

Can you comment on CentOS 6.0 status? Is it still 2-3 weeks from now or
was there any progress that will shorten this period?
