lts kernel bump to .32 series?
 

Hi guys,
i have some time tomorrow, shall we bump the old .27 lts kernel to the new LTS
kernel series .32?
I would also like to provide binary modules for this series then.

If I remember correctly, the .32 series has a bug with Intel cards that
causes screen flickering and the patch that corrects this was only merged in
the .33 series

During the .32 series I tried a few arch releases and they all caused the
flickering in my laptop,
so I rolled back and went from .31 to .33 when it was released.

Don't know if this is relevant, but it doesn't hurt to tell.

For .32 did you try setting i915's powersave parameter to 0?

my Intel card (945) has flickering bugs with .32 as well as .33 . (Sure
it is true they merged *some* fixes to .33...the fixes that existed so
far...maybe they merged some fixes to the stable branch too?) There
are no flickering bugs with non-KMS mode in .32 (except that Arch
userspace doesn't support it anymore since upstream X intel drivers
since 2.9.1 dropped support)

Add powersave=0 into kernel line solves flickering problem of i915's.
However, it may cause random lockup of X(on booting) at least on my laptop,
never happen after removing this parameter.

2.6.33 didn't solve this problem either, but I still cannot find a bug
report tracking this problem, any clue?

I did try and it didn't work. At least with the releases I tried.
But, even so, it's a workaround, isn't it?
