Default Question about 64studio

Hello all,
Well, after some time I have now decided to try installing 64studio.
I have been using Ubuntu Intrepid for a very long time now for my daily use but for audio usage I have not had that good luck with it.
I posted some questions in the passed, but I am just wondering about a few things.
First, what version of Gnome is included with 64studio? Is it 2.24?
Also, since I am visually impaired I rely on speech and or braille. Is bRLTTY included in the repository?
Is Orca, gnome-orca also included in the repository?
I suppose that 64studio is default to jackd, right?
What will happen if I try to use applications that require alsa or pulseaudio?
Also, has the jconv reverb been included with the current release?
I will be using a distribution called grml to install 64studio since i wasn't sure if BRLTTY could be launched from the installation CD itself.
Best regards and thanks for any info,
Christian

64studio 2.1 uses gnome 2.14 from debian etch, 64studio 3.0 uses 2.22
from ubuntu hardy heron.

yes, it is.

> Is Orca, gnome-orca also included in the repository?
yes for 64studio 3.0, no for 2.1.

> I suppose that 64studio is default to jackd, right?
jackd is installed by default but not started by default.

> What will happen if I try to use applications that require alsa or pulseaudio?
alsa is is installed anyway. I never used pulseaudio though, but there
are packages provided.
using them simultaneously might cause troubles.

> Also, has the jconv reverb been included with the current release?
No. (correct me if i`m wrong) - There have been requests to include it
in the future.
It installs fine from source.

best,
david

Hello David,
Many thanks for your reply!
I have another question. Since I have not used jackd before where can i find out more info about using it?
Will I need to disable alsa before using it?
I am new to linux audio in general.
Best regards and thanks,
Christian

Default Question about 64studio

Hi Christian,

> Since I have not used jackd before where can i find out more info
about using it?

We have this page, but it relates to using Jack with a GUI:

http://www.64studio.com/manual/audio/jack

You might be better off reading the jackd man page - for instance:

http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/man/man1/jackd.1.html

Will I need to disable alsa before using it?

No, Jack opens the soundcard using the ALSA driver (unless you are using
FireWire audio, in which case it uses the freebob or FFADO driver).

Cheers!

Daniel
