Hi Ralf, hi Steff,

I know some editors for Linux, but I have no experiences in using them.
Any suggestions what editor I should recommend to someone who don't know
Linux and hasn't knowledge about programming?

Try http://kompozer.net/ - or in the future maybe
http://bluegriffon.org/ if it becomes stable.

Cheers!

Daniel

Thank you Daniel

I was thinking of Screem, Quanta Plus and NVU. Is 64studio.com made with
KompoZer?

Hi Steff

there's a German link for NVU and KompoZer, get the "Neueste Version
KompoZer 0.7.10" from* *http://www.nvu-composer.de/. You can download a
Windows, MacOS and Linux version. You should give Linux a chance.

Cheers,
Ralf

I use Bluefish, but I wouldn't recommend it for people who need WYSIWYG
editing. KompoZer is a fork of Nvu, Quanta is more like Bluefish. Screem
I haven't used.

Cheers!

Avoid this. It generates the most awful HTML.

I write all my web in Vim or Kate, but the best
WYSIWYG tool I know is Open Office. You get flexible
layout and it can make HTML with CSS styles.

I thought that was the purpose of WYSIWYG editors, on the basis that you
would never be allowed to use View Source again :-)

True, I have used it to convert Word documents for the web, and it does
a good job of that.

Cheers!

Hi Andy

I once tried OpenOffice, but there was a problem with WYSIWYG, "body
text" vs "paragraph", every thing looks fine for OpenOffice, but for
browsers it was bad formated.

As editors with a GUI I used Gvim, but today most times I'm using Kate.
Most people, even if they don't know HTML, will edit some HTML source
code, after the main source was generated by a WYSIWYG editor, but Steff
won't have the time, he needs simple HTML web pages without editing the
source code.

Cheers,
Ralf

So the source code isn't formated very well, but the web page is
formated very well ?!

Hi Steff, you should have it installed, but here's the link to the

because *KompoZer* is a little bit freakish to install, some might need
this *HOWTO*.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Repository
------------------------------------------------------------------------

"*KompoZer*
NVU 1.0, released in June 2005, is the last official release that you
will find at most download sites, however, it isn't the newest or best
version of the Nvu software. An unofficial bugfix/update called
"KompoZer" is available here <http://kompozer.net/download.php>.
KompoZer fixes some of the major bugs and annoyances found in Nvu 1.0.
If you are using NVU 1.0 and it works for you, stick with it. But if you
run into problems, give KompoZer a try and see if it helps."

"kompozer-0.7.10-i386.deb
<http://downloads.sourceforge.net/kompozer/kompozer-0.7.10-i386.deb?use_m=
irror=3Dovh>
(8.2 MB) - successfully tested on Debian Etch"

------------------------------------------------------------------------
64 Studio 2.1 (Etch) 32-bit and 64-bit
------------------------------------------------------------------------

To install KompoZer to a vanilla install of 64 Studio 2.1 32-bit it
might be fine to run:

wget
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/kompozer/kompozer-0.7.10-i386.deb?use_mi=
rror=3Dovh
su
dpkg -i kompozer-0.7.10-i386.deb

This package seems to be incompatible with the 64-bit version.

To install KompoZer to a vanilla install of 64 Studio 2.1 64-bit I run:

wget
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/kompozer/kompozer-0.7.10-gcc4.0.3-i486.t=
ar.gz?use_mirror=3Dovh
tar xzvf kompozer-0.7.10-gcc4.0.3-i486.tar.gz
rm kompozer-0.7.10-gcc4.0.3-i486.tar.gz
mv kompozer /path/where/it/should/be

KompoZer can be started by running:

/path/where/it/should/be/kompozer/kompozer

------------------------------------------------------------------------
64 Studio 2.1 (Lenny) 32-bit and 64-bit
------------------------------------------------------------------------

To install KompoZer to 64 Studio 2.1 64-bit upgraded to Lenny I run:

wget
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/kompozer/kompozer-0.7.10-gcc4.0.3-i486.t=
ar.gz?use_mirror=3Dovh
tar xzvf kompozer-0.7.10-gcc4.0.3-i486.tar.gz
rm kompozer-0.7.10-gcc4.0.3-i486.tar.gz
mv kompozer /path/where/it/should/be

This way to install shouldn't differ for the 32-bit version.
KompoZer can be started by running:

/path/where/it/should/be/kompozer/kompozer

Just copying "kompozer" from "/path/where/it/should/be/kompozer" to
"/usr/bin" seems to be no help, to enable a normal start.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suse 11.0 32-bit and 64-bit
------------------------------------------------------------------------

To install KompoZer to Suse 11.0 64-bit I used the 32-bit RPM:

wget
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/kompozer/kompozer-0.7.10-i386.rpm?use_mi=
rror=3Dovh
su
rpm -iv kompozer-0.7.10-i386.rpm
rm kompozer-0.7.10-i386.rpm

This way to install shouldn't differ for the 32-bit version.
KompoZer can be started normal by running:

kompozer

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Non-Linux
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know what to do.

Just one information, because of an integrated FTP client, it's possible
to edit the web page direct on the web server. Steff, take a look at
http://www.netzwelt.de/software/6914-kompozer.html.

HTH,
Ralf

PS: I didn't tested KompoZer myself. For Suse some seems to be fine with
the 32-bit RPM, that's not official listed as "successfully tested" for
any Suse.
