I have a need to control mulitply usb sound cards with 64Studio.

The problem is I don't know how to address this as all i see available is the one internal sound card as pcm.

I would like to see the extra sound cards as pcm0, pcm1 and pcm2 etc.

Also if this is posable is it posiable to give the inputs and outputs a virtual name like pcm0 woulud be displayed and "int-sound-out" and pcm1 "usb-sound-out"* or what ever you would like to set it to.

Though this is possible, you will have problems using this new "device"
in Jack. To use it in jack it will have to be synchronised to each
other, and many USB sound interfaces have no external sync method. Jack
will run into many xruns, and fail.

It is better to get a single device that has all the ports that you
might need, or to get "pro" usb devices that can be synchronised.

Cheers,
Quentin

Then do you know if there is aÂ* USB sound card

[1] 12 line inputs and 4 line outputs

[2] 128 line inputs and 32 line outputs

I all ready have a 256 channel Yamaha Mixing deck.

I have the need to filter and enhance individual inputs for a live podcast feed, I was hoping the USB sound card option would give me this option.

Hi Daryl

I don't know if I understand your trouble. At the moment you are fine
with only one sound card, but you don't know which sound card is the USB
device and you would like to give the device's IOs names, right?

There is a way to give sound cards consistent numbers, see
http://www.64studio.com/faq_user number 12, but you don't need to do
this. If you'll do it, you can get the driver names, after installing
hwinfo and as root running hwinfo --sound (just change the _ of the
driver names to -).

If you are using Jack control, you can use Setup... >> Tab: Settings >>
and choose the device by using the >-button, there the devices are
called by names.

The third way to force one sound card to be the default number 0 is to
run alsaconf as root, but this will cause the loss of other devices,
e.g. MPU-MIDI or USB-MIDI-devices.

If there are more inputs or outputs shown as "capture_x" and
"playback_x" as you think your sound card has got, the first IOs in
normal circumstances are the analogue IOs in normal order.

It's possible to change the names for Jack control Patchbay, but I can't
see a way to change the names for Connect, not by alsa, qjackctl or jackd.

Once you have a perfect setup you might use LASH to save it, but I don't
know how and if it works.

Sorry, this is all I know.

Cheers,
Ralf

I'm wrong with this, you'll loss an on-board MPU-MIDI (because it's part
of integrated sound devices on some mobos) if you have one, but not the
USB-MIDI-devices, at the moment I will lose my USB-MIDI-device, because
from one day to the other, without changing anything but the video
driver, the sound cards aren't fine any more.
