I wound up rolling my own thing that's tuned for atom processors, I based it off of lubuntu, so lxde is the desktop. But its 32 bit because I'm shooting for atom processors. The stock rt kernel for ubuntu seems to run fine on 32 bit. With all the non audio services turned off and rt kernel and rtirq it runs really low latency on my eeepc netbook.
I'm able to run the latest versions of ardour and hydrogen. The machine is an atom processor and runs a 30 gig solid state drive with only 1 gig of ram.
I've run 64studio for regular desktop pcs but have had an easier time running the most recent versions of ubuntu on netbooks. But I found netbook remix to be pretty useless because it takes too many resources to run the ui, I found lxde is great for maximizing resources to put to use for audio.

I also don't have issues, regarding to a boot-able kernel-rt, when using
Ubuntu Lucid or a RPM based distro like Suse, when I set up everything
myself, but Ubuntustudio Lucid amd64 ships without a kernel-rt by
default and non of the kernel-rt from the repositories, neither a self
build kernel-rt can be booted.
For Ubuntustudio I switched to their mailing list.
AFAIK 64 Studio is the only DEB based distro that ships with amd64
support and that is usable, unfortunately there often were issues,
because it was outdated. At the moment 3.3 is okay, but endangered to
become outdated.
I'll report back when 64 Studio 3.0 and 3.3 amd64 are restored on my

Hi Mike,

I've tried the group registration a couple of times, but nothing ever
happens. I guess it won't hurt for me to try again :-)

That's very kind, thanks. If there are community members who would be
interested in hanging out on #64studio and helping (or just chatting
with) other users, that channel would certainly be a useful facility to
have.
I'd admit that we haven't done a very good job of communicating with the
user base about our plans and roadmap lately, but I'm hoping we'll be
able to announce some new stuff soon which will put all this into context.
Cheers!
Daniel
