Solid performance on 64 Studio 3.3 alpha 2
Hi all.
Just to report that 64 Studio 3.3 alpha 2 is working great on my machine. Here's my hardware configuration, for reference: angelsguitar@StudioPC:~$ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31/P35/P31 Express DRAM Controller (rev 10) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31/P35/P31 Express PCI Express Root Port (rev 10) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 1 (rev 01) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 2 (rev 01) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH7 Family USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 01) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 01) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 01) 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 01) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 01) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev e1) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 01) 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation N10/ICH7 Family SATA IDE Controller (rev 01) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family SMBus Controller (rev 01) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 LE] (rev a1) 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Can work on Ardour with more than 10 opened tracks and various plugins running, and no xruns.* Shows a very stable performance so far. _______________________________________________ 64studio-devel mailing list 64studio-devel@lists.64studio.com http://lists.64studio.com/mailman/listinfo/64studio-devel |

Subject: Nearly, resp. most of the times solid performance on 64 Studio 3.3 alpha 2 I do agree, the alpha seems to be ok, but I didn't test the most important thing and on my computer there's a "little" issue. So far I didn't use the alpha for audio production, but there's one issue on my machine. Sometimes there are network problems. If I try to browse the web or to fetch mails while there is such an issue, the graphics seems to be mad, then I only can push the reset button. If so, web applications won't respond any more (killall webapps sometimes can solve this, but sometimes it has got no effect), the shutdown stops with the desktop environments wallpaper, in other words, no shutdown will take place. Btw. sometimes I get a shutdown message regarding to a problem when "shutting down" the network. Can't quote it yet. Also sometimes the network isn't ready after the startup is finished and the session is running for a while ... pon dsl-provider or disconnecting and connecting the ADSL modem from power or just waiting some time, sometimes solve this, but sometimes I need to reboot several times. I'm still using PPPoE and I first noticed this or a similar phenomena after I used the proprietary NVIDIA driver plus the wanted resolution and wanted vertically frequency for the monitor. Excepted of this the alpha here is stable too. In any case 3.0-beta3 still is my workaday OS. As I've written some days ago, LXDE is a full substitution for GNOME, I didn't notice any disadvantages. The mouse behaves different to GNOME, a matter of taste. It seems to be sluggish, but it isn't annoying and perhaps better for graphic art work, but I dunno it's untested. lspci run on 3.0-beta3: $ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: ATI Technologies Inc RS690 Host Bridge 00:02.0 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc RS690 PCI to PCI Bridge (PCI Express Graphics Port 0) 00:07.0 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc RS690 PCI to PCI Bridge (PCI Express Port 3) 00:12.0 SATA controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 Non-Raid-5 SATA 00:13.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 USB (OHCI0) 00:13.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 USB (OHCI1) 00:13.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 USB (OHCI2) 00:13.3 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 USB (OHCI3) 00:13.4 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 USB (OHCI4) 00:13.5 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 USB Controller (EHCI) 00:14.0 SMBus: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 SMBus Controller (rev 14) 00:14.1 IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 IDE 00:14.3 ISA bridge: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 PCI to LPC Bridge 00:14.4 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 PCI to PCI Bridge 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 SE] (rev a1) 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
