Default First experiences 64studio_3.0beta3_amd64

Hello Studio 64,

I have just installed the 3rd beta of Studio64 on a hp550 notebook. By
way of explanation, the 160GB hard-drive of this x86_64 notebook is
partitioned as follows:

sda5 swap
sda6 root directory of openSUSE 11.1
sda7 as of now - root directory of Studio64
sda8 home directory for both distros.

The installation went without problems after I managed on the 4th
attempt to stop the DVD automatically booting with F1. It would be nice
if there was a 3 - 5 second delay before the DVD boots. The cheat codes
I used were "install lang=de vga=0x314". Otherwise the graphic card
freezed during the DVD boot sequence.

Regarding the entry of user name and password - it would be nice if
Studio64 used the same practise as other distros and took over the user
settings from an existing installation, in this case openSUSE 11.1 with
the trace (real-time) kernel.

Studio64 booted successfully from the hard-disk. I noticed there were 2
warnings in the boot messages.

I tried starting jackd with qjackctl using same settings as for openSUSE
11.1. Jackd started but gives continual xruns. (I can use jackd on
openSUSE for hours without a single xrun.)

The boot messages and the messages from jackd for both studio64 and
openSUSE are attached.

Best regards, Simon Lewis

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your detailed installation report :-)

Yep, we have a ticket open for that.

I hadn't noticed that feature in the Debian installer, it does sound
useful though.

There are a couple of things we still need to fix there.

As you have an Intel HDA sound card, you probably need a tweak. In the file:

/etc/modprobe.d/hda-intel

try values of position_fix=2 or position_fix=3 to see which gives you
the best jackd performance.

Cheers!

Daniel

Hello Daniel

Thanks for the quick response, position_fix=2 seems to be the right
value (the default installation was position_fix=1).

A short test with Hexter did not produce any xruns.

With best regards, Simon
